Welcome to Velvet Connect!
Hello,
My name is Keith Jenkins and I’m based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. I launched my travel blog Velvet Escape in 2008 and that led me to explore the fascinating world of social media. I started with facebook, then hopped onto the Twitter bandwagon, explored the mysterious workings of StumbledUpon and joined a slew of blogger communities. Before I knew it, I was hooked. My initial purpose was to market the articles on my blog. After several months, I found myself building real and valuable relationships with fellow bloggers and travellers, travel organisations, tour operators, travel agents and hotels. I’ve learned so much since: the ‘do’s and dont’s’ of social media, the value of solid relationships, online marketing methods, building a brand/image and originating new business through social media, to name a few.
With this new baggage in hand, I decided to create a new platform, Velvet Connect, to share my experiences and expertise as a blogger, a huge Twitter-fan and a relationship-building enthusiast. My aim with Velvet Connect is to help anyone who is new to social media by providing advice and tips in simple, easy-to-understand language, and promote social media as a powerful marketing tool, especially for small businesses and budding entrepreneurs. Velvet Connect will also function as a platform for other social media and entrepreneurship enthusiasts to share their expertise with my readers.
I look forward to insightful discussions on Velvet Connect. In this sense, your comments will be greatly appreciated. Finally, I hope that Velvet Connect will grow to become a recognised source of value-adding resources.
